Competition Schedules & Results

We are very proud to be able to offer a variety of levels of competitive gymnastics, and trampoline. The following is a brief description of the different competitive programs:

Coaches reserve the right to keep athletes from competing if they are unprepared in any way – at
any level.

The Invitational Program (Level 2-8)

At Pickering Athletic Centre Inc. our INVITATIONAL Program is subdivided into groups by skill level
and age:

INVITATIONAL A
INVITATIONAL B
INVITATIONAL C
INVITATIONAL D

INVITATIONAL F
ETC.

Athletes in these levels may participate in some
local competitions. Coaches reserve the right to
keep athletes from competing if they are
unprepared in any way.

Pickering Athletic Centre Inc. athletes ages 5 to 6
will be eligible to participate in the ODP (Ontario Development Program).  Athletes ages 7+ will be eligible to participate in the OCP (Ontario Competitive Program) and possibly the ODP (Ontario Development Program).  The age of the athlete for the competitive year is based on their age as of January 1st, 2012.

The Provincial Program (Level 5-9)

At the Provincial level, athletes compete according to age and level of skill.

Skill level increases with increased level of training.

The Provincial athlete competes each year at 3 Provincial Qualifier Meets and must achieve a ranking of top 32 athletes.  A ranking of top 32 athletes will qualify for Ontario Championships.  A final list of qualified athletes will be provided by Gymnastics Ontario to the Club.  Provincial athletes also compete at a number of invitational competitions each year.  Eligible athletes may also compete at:

  • Provincial Tour Selection
  • Eastern Canadian Championships

(If a PAC coach is selected (not as an alternate) as team coach to one or both of the above teams, the coach/es travel expense policy will be applied.)

The National Program

At the National level, athletes compete according to age and level of skill.

Skill level increases with increased level of training.

The National athlete competes each year at a variety of competitions. Eligible athletes may compete at:

  • Provincial Tour Selection
  • Ontario Championships
  • Eastern Canadian Championships
  • Canadian Championships

(If a PAC coach is selected (not as an alternate) as team coach to one or both of the above teams, the coach/es travel expense policy will be applied.)

Eligible athletes may also compete at Ontario
Championships.  The results from this competition determine the athlete’s placement and possibility of competing at Eastern Canadian Championships or National Championships.

National athletes also compete at a number of invitational competitions each year.

Trampoline Program – (Boys & Girls)

Competitive trampolinists learn progressively
more difficult routines as their “air sense” develops. Provincial athletes compete at 3 qualifiers and
must achieve a set score in order to qualify for Ontario Championships.  Athletes may also attend invitational competitions, and be selected to attend training camps. Our Provincial athletes may be selected to travel to away invitationals and
represent ‘Team Pickering in other provinces, territories and the U.S.

Athletes in the Interclub trampoline program
must participate in at least one of the invitational competitions within Ontario. Coaches reserve the right to keep athletes from competing if they are unprepared in any way.

Eligible athletes may also compete at:

  • Eastern Canadian Championships
  • Elite Ontario

(If a PAC coach is selected (not as an alternate) as team coach to one or both of the above teams, the coach/es travel expense policy will be applied.)

Attendance

Regular, punctual attendance is important if the athlete is to get the benefit of training sessions. This includes summer months. Parents are requested to notify the club/coaches, in advance if possible, if an athlete is going to miss a practice.

Your child must be picked up promptly when their class ends. If your child is picked up late you will be charged a LATE FEE of $1.00 per minute which is payable directly to the coach upon pick-up.

This also applies to early drop off.

The yearly fees are prorated which includes three weeks vacation for the athletes and stat holiday weekends.

Failure to attend 75% of your scheduled training will result in the removal of our competitive program.

Annual Physical Ability and Skills Testing

There will be yearly in-house testing of skills, flexibility, strength and coordination designed and engineered for the individual athletes level and age. Your son/daughter will be required to meet a certain percentage of achievement in order to remain in our competitive program.

Attendance will also be factored in to the above testing. Pickering Athletic Centre’s athletes are required to participate in 75% of their scheduled classes.

Change Rooms

Designated change rooms are available for use by both competitive and recreational athletes. Athletes are required to keep the change rooms in a neat and tidy manner (No food or drinks).

It is essential that all members, their parents and caregivers respect that the change rooms are gender specific. As such, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all members that it is Pickering Athletic Centre’s policy that adults are to enter the same gender change roomonly.

As we have members of all ages, who may be using our change rooms for undressing, and for the safety of our members, this policy is not negotiable and will be enforced by all of our staff.

If you assist a child of the opposite gender, please respect this policy by using the same change room that you would use as an adult.

Communication

Our main source of communication is via e-mail.

Grooming & Attire

Athletes are expected to be clean and neat at the gym and during competitions. Please remember coaches have close contact with your children. Gym suits should not be worn twice in a row without being washed. Body suits must be one piece, no skirts attached. Wearing gym shorts is at the discretion of the coaching staff. Athlete’s hair (if long) should be tied back securely or be short in length. Bare midriffs are not permitted.

All competitive athletes will be required to own a competitive uniform, which consists of a gym suit and a “march-in” wind/warm-up suit. These are ordered through the Boutique and made to the athlete’s measurements. Payment for these suits will be required at time of order. These suits are mandatory uniforms. Competition hair protocol – out of face, prefer no bun.

Movement of an Athlete During Regular Season
(September – June)

It is possible that an athlete may move to another group during the regular season. If this is the case, then the athlete’s hours of training will either increase or decrease according to the new grouping. As a result of this, the athlete’s fees may increase or decrease.

Summer Training

(July and August)

The training season runs from September 1 to August 31. All athletes are required to train during the entire season. PAC does not permit athletes to withdraw from the program for the summer months and return in the fall. If an athlete decides to withdraw from training for the summer, they risk losing their spot in the program as many of our programs have waiting lists. Written notice is required. PAC may permit an athlete to withdraw for the summer under certain circumstances only and with the permission of the Head coach. In this event, fees will continue to be payable for the summer months at a rate of ½ of the usual monthly fee for the summer training hours.

During the months of July and August it is possible that an athlete’s hours of training will increase.

If an athlete’s hours of training increase in the summer months, an adjustment in fees for July and August will have to be made. Therefore, it is possible that you will be required to remit additional fees due to the increase in the athlete’s training hours. You will be notified if this pertains to your child.
